Brick, steel sash and rail lines

Warehouse District Window Film in Raleigh

West of the downtown core, Raleigh's Warehouse District turned old rail-side warehouses into offices, galleries, restaurants and breweries, and added new mixed-use buildings around Raleigh Union Station. The glass ranges from century-old steel sash to modern curtain wall.

Window Film for Converted Warehouse Offices

The brick warehouses along the rail lines were built for storage and distribution, with big window openings for daylight in the days before cheap electric light. Converted into offices for tech companies, agencies and design firms, those openings now pour sun across open floors. Some still have steel-framed industrial windows with many small panes. Others were reglazed with large modern units.

Each type needs a different approach. Small steel-sash panes are filmed individually and take more time, and older glass needs inspection first. Large replacement units need a film matched to their glass. In both cases, the usual goals are glare control for screens and heat control on the west and south. Owners of historic buildings often want the industrial look kept, which points to clear or nearly clear products. Where a building used state or federal historic tax credits in its renovation, the owner may also want to check that window changes stay consistent with the approved plans, and interior film that leaves the sash untouched is usually the easiest fit.

Security and Anti-Graffiti Film Near Union Station

The streets around Union Station and the rail corridor are busy by day and quiet at night. Galleries, shops and restaurants with big ground-floor windows are exposed to tagging, scratching and break-ins after hours.

Anti-graffiti film takes scratches and etching that would otherwise ruin the glass, and is replaced when damaged. Security film holds a broken pane together and slows entry, especially when combined with frame attachment on doors. For galleries, the combination of security film and UV film protects both the glass and the work on display.

Window Film for New Mixed-Use Buildings in the Warehouse District

Newer buildings in and around the district combine offices, apartments and ground-floor retail, with large insulated glass on every side. Office tenants deal with glare and perimeter heat, and apartment residents with afternoon sun and close neighbors. Building management controls what goes on the glass, and we work through them for approval.

Glass conference rooms in the new offices often need frosted bands or patterned film. Apartment residents can ask for removable heat or privacy film with management approval. Trains passing on the nearby tracks add vibration and noise that film does not change, but residents facing the rail corridor often still want privacy film because passengers look straight into lower units.

Restaurant and Brewery Glass in the Warehouse District

Restaurants and breweries in the district favor big roll-up doors and walls of glass facing patios. Afternoon sun on those walls heats taprooms and dining rooms, and glare washes out menu screens. A pale solar film calms both without making the taproom feel shut in. Patio-facing glass that faces west benefits most.

Installs are scheduled before opening, and roll-up door panels are cut individually so the film does not catch when the doors move.

Window Film Questions We Hear Near Union Station

Our building still has its steel factory sash. Is film possible?

Provided the old lites are intact, yes. Every little pane gets its own piece, and we inspect for cracks and loose glazing first.

Will film change the look of a historic warehouse?

Clear and nearly clear films keep the industrial look. We avoid mirror films on historic facades.

Can galleries use UV film without changing how art looks?

Clear UV film barely affects visible light, so colors look the same. It blocks nearly all ultraviolet, which slows fading.

Do you work on roll-up doors?

Yes. Each panel is cut individually and edges are finished carefully so the film does not snag as the door moves.
